call to ministry
Scripture that encourages and challenges us
"Stop doing wrong, learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow." Isaiah 1:17 (NIV)
This verse forms a quite succinct statement of what it means to be a good minister. One could even identify it as the job description of a minister. Good character, character reflective of God's character, is the most substantive and public witness of the Gospel.

"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect." Romans 12:2 (NASB)
Those who follow the call to ministry cannot check their brains at the door. The work of the ministry calls for all the intellectual skills one can muster with the power of God working through an educated mind.

"Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, 'Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.' And God granted his request." 1 Chronicles 4:10 (NIV)
As I follow the call of Christ to serve Him and others, it is good to know that He's willing to bless me and to bless me with a purpose. What purpose? That of expanding my influence and my impact for His glory and the advancement of His kingdom. In doing so, He has kept me safe and delivered me from evil many times over.
- Gabriel, Dallas

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40: 28-31 (NIV)
